From Book to Business: How ‘Mitan & Moni’ Inspired Knit & Knot Co.

If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be designing stylish accessories for yarn lovers around the world, I would’ve smiled... but also wondered how on earth I’d get there.

Yet, like most beautiful things in life, it started with a story.

The Legacy of Mitan & Moni

In 2023, I published a passion project called Mitan & Moni—a tribute to my Swedish mom and aunt, two bold sisters who took Hollywood by storm in the late ’60s with nothing but crochet hooks, fierce talent, and big dreams. They created handmade crochet fashion that was featured in top boutiques and even caught the eye of celebrities.

As I pieced together their journey—through interviews, old photos, and heartwarming memories—I fell in love with the world of yarn in a way I hadn’t expected. Their artistry, their courage, their sisterhood… it lit a spark in me.

A Newfound Awe for Yarn Lovers

Around the same time, I started spending more time online with the crochet and knitting community. And let me tell you—WOW. I was in awe. The creativity, the skill, the joy that flows from the hands of makers who turn simple skeins into magic... it was breathtaking.

But here’s what I noticed:
While the yarn creations were stunning, the accessories? Not so much. I kept thinking—why aren’t there more stylish, functional pieces for these incredible creators? Why are yarn lovers toting around their beautiful projects in old grocery bags or worn pouches?

That’s when the lightbulb moment happened.

The Birth of Knit & Knot Co.

The story of Mitan & Moni reminded me that creativity deserves to be celebrated—and that bold dreams can become real businesses. So I took a leap and launched Knit & Knot Co., a brand rooted in love for makers, memory, and modern design.

My goal?
To create tote bags, mugs, t-shirts, and gifts that reflect the spirit of yarn lovers everywhere. Pieces that say, “Yes, I’m a maker. Yes, I’m proud. And yes, I deserve to carry my passion in style.”

Each product is a little nod to my mom and aunt’s legacy… and a big high-five to everyone who picks up a hook or a pair of needles to create something beautiful.
